The mind, the heart and human existence. Each one in turn is a study for bgroup's first programme - a collection of three compelling dance works by choreographer Ben Wright. Beginning the Autumn 2008 "Live" season at Hextable Dance, this performance by bgroup will feature live piano.
Wright presents meaning without explicitness, choreographing robust and delicate pictures that reference the fragility and beauty of our human condition. The programme comprises a visually arresting male quartet.
'Thought latching to thought and pulling' was originally commissioned for the 2006 Place Prize; 'Passing strange and wonderful' is moody and intense duet; and a quintet 'small acts' offers humorous and intimate insights across the rich panorama of human behaviour.
Wright has collaborated with the acclaimed lighting designer Guy Hoare (Henri Oguike Dance Company, Mark Bruce Company, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company) and has drawn his dancers from the ranks of companies such as Hofesh Shechter, Bare Bones, Felix Ruckert, and New Adventures. Added together the result is an evening of poignant and exquisite dancing.
