Background History

Hextable Dance as a build project took over 10 years in development. Championed by the (now retired) Headteacher of Hextable School, Sheila Smith and local community groups.
Project Manager, Simon Hawkins, was appointed by Kent County Council to the scheme in 2002. Following receipt of an award by Arts Council England, through the National Lottery, and securing partnership funding from Kent County Council, Hextable School - Specialist Arts College status and Swanley Town Council, work began on site in 2004.
The vision to build a facility, conceived as an Arts & Media Centre, now houses dance and drama studios, an ICT suite, a sound recording studio, changing facilities and office accommodation.
Hextable Dance, is a community resource, building strong links with local educational provision in the performing arts and attracting high-calibre visiting artists to the first-class facilities.
The construction programme was completed in summer 2005 when Glenys Barton
was awarded the Percent for Art Public Art Commission at
Hextable Dance in February of that year.
